Aladdin in Sunderland
December 3, 2008 by verity
Snow is falling, and the Christmas lights are on and what better way to get into the festive spirit than going to see a pantomime. Coming to Sunderland this Christmas is the wonderful classic Aladdin.
The most mystical Pantomime of all is flying in on a magic carpet to the Sunderland Empire. The Arabian Nights tale is a well known story and has been passed on for over a thousand years; join the cast as they take you on a magical carpet ride to the wonders of the east.
Aimed at all ages this pantomime is not one to be missed. The story involves sorcery, adventure, lamps, genies and of course, love.
A troubled washer woman’s son (Aladdin) is not looking to stay in the family business and seeks to find love with the beautiful Emperor’s daughter and of course it is not that easy. Taken under the wing of an evil sorcerer Aladdin is led astray and on an adventure to discover a lamp that contains a genie. What will happen to Aladdin and will he find his love?
You can expect a star studded cast with celebrated American actor and director, Paul Michael Glaser from ‘Starsky and Hutch’, who will be appearing as the ultimate Panto baddie Abanazar, alongside superstar singer and actress Sheila Ferguson from ‘The Three Degrees’, as the mystical GENIE. Also the heart throb, singer and finalist in ITV’s ‘Grease Is The Word’, Anthony Kavanagh, will star in the leading role of the hero himself Aladdin, together with star of Channel 4’s hit comedy show ‘Banzai’, Masashi Fujimoto, as the Emperor.
With last year’s success of Cinderella breaking box office records for previous pantomimes, the same year Empire theatre celebrated their centenary year it was a major success. Aladdin is unmissable and will no doubt bring families together this Christmas.
The pantomime is opening on the 5th December and tickets are available now, just visit the site or call 0844 847 24 99. (Booking fees will apply)
