The best US TV show ever, round one Simpsons vs American Dad

April 27, 2009 by Lee Dover

There has been many US television shows that have imported themselves into the popular culture of millions of people worldwide.  These have ranged from the comical animated comedies that have seen many laughs per minute to the action packed dramas that have more twists and turns than a small country road.  Many prestigious awards have been shared between these programmes and the reviews have reguarly been off the charts.

Through it all though, it has to be questioned which show is the King of the small screen?  To do this will take a tournament that will see many shocks and surprises and have some show stealers along the way.  Each week there will be a new head to head and a small detail of each show before the vital vote is cast.  To vote simply leave a comment and a small detail of your choice.

The Simpsons family courtesy of milky.wayTo start the tournament, a battle has been set up between the veteran of animated comedies and a newblood hoping to eclipse everything elase in its category.  Many people may have heard of the first show while others question what the other show is.

The Simpsons first broadcast its barrels of laughs to the world in 1990 as a half hour comedy about the most disfunctional family on TV and the countless people they connect with in the small town of Springfield.  The cast is memorable with most fans and everyone has their favourites.  Some like the overweight dad Homer, with his mindless actions and acts that make him the least likely to win Father of the Year anytime soon.  Others go for devil child Bart as he continully causes trouble and mischief across the whole of the town.  Even some of the smaller characters like Moe and Comic Book Guy have seen their popularity rise over the seasons.  The fan base is amazing and the awards that creator Matt Groening has picked up as a result are almost countless.

Stan Smith on the cover of an American Dad DVD courtesy of Su℮ ❥ American Dad meanwhile is a new fish in a rather packed and competitive sea and is the younger, more shy relation to the success story that is Family Guy.  Inheriting its relation’s adult humour and tongue in cheek jokes, this comedy still has its good points that allows it to swim on its own.  Created by Seth MacFarlane, it again focuses on a family but this time there is Stan, a CIA agent who happens to be the dad, and an alien called Roger.  Following the antics of these usually finish, as well as starting and during, in hilarious momentsIt may have huge boots to fill but have the fight to grab a good backing and have a lasting appeal on the world of television.

But which one is better?  Are the Simpsons family too powerful to stop even after almost 20 years or can the Smith family deal a major blow to show their belong to be mentioned in the category of animated comedy.

Votes will count until midnight on Sunday May 3rd.  Next week is Futurama vs Family Guy in another round one battle.
