Review: Aveda Straightening Gloss

October 19, 2009 by nrampley

aveda-glssAs someone with unruly hair which often requires short of an hour straightening time, I was intrigued to test Aveda’s smooth infusion glossing straightener.

Usually when it comes to my hair straightening regime it is restricted to special occasions, when my hair is in a general good state and I have time to spare. Armed with Aveda product and my straightening irons at the ready, I set about the task in hand.

Upon first opening the serum was greasy to the touch and a little bit awkward to distribute evenly - resulting in slight over application in some areas and thus requiring a vigorous combing through. However once the straighteners were in use I noticed a difference. They practically glided through my hair and what usually took several attempts with my irons (through no fault of their own, more down to my stubborn hair wishing to retain its natural state of frizz) was achieved first or second time around. So far so good…

As little as ten minutes later, something I’m not used to with my personal hair maintenance - my hair was fully straight! It looked glossy and felt smooth to the touch, with the exception of the area where I’d inadvertently over applied the product, which still felt slightly greasy.

However, I was willing to wait until the next morning (having straightened my hair late at night) and see what it was like then. This is usually the true test – how long the effect lasts?

The next morning, I did have to go over a couple of flicks at the bottom of my hair but overall my hair had stayed straight. The best bit was that the greasiness of over application had gone away, so all in all I was one happy tester!

So dear readers, should you buy this product? I’d say it was its one of the best products I’ve come across, aside from the initial greasy feel on my hands once I’d applied the serum, and so I heartily recommend should you be looking for something new to add to your hair grooming collection, Aveda Smooth Infusion is for you!
